The University of Minnesota says both victims — ages 49 and 19 — have been discharged from the hospital. The shooting occurred at about 8:20 p.m. outside the arena following the ceremony, Erik Swanson, chief of the University of Minnesota Police Department said in a statement. Wayzata Public Schools Superintendent Chace Anderson released a statement Saturday saying in part: We are deeply saddened that this incident occurred at the conclusion of what should have been a joyful and memorable celebration. Our thoughts are with the Wayzata families and others who were directly affected by this tragic event. Please know that we are working closely with law enforcement and will continue to monitor the situation. We are committed to supporting our school community as we begin to process and heal. Counseling resources will be made available to those who need them, and we will share more information as it becomes available. WCCO Swanson didn’t identify the suspect, and the circumstances of the shooting are still unclear. He says U police are leading the investigation with assistance from the Minneapolis Police Department and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz addressed the shooting in a social media post on Friday night. “Horrific news of a shooting near Mariucci Arena during a graduation event tonight – a time of celebration that should never have turned into one of fear and sadness,” Walz said. The governor said his office was coordinating with the university, and the “state stands ready to help in any way we can.” This story will be updated .
