Have you ever felt like your house is more than just a building? Well, you’re not alone. Research has shown that for many homeowners, their place of residence is an extension of themselves. In fact, a recent survey of 2,000 American homeowners found that an overwhelming 78% view their homes as a part of who they are.
“Four in five homeowners see their home as an extension of themselves.”
This deep emotional connection to our living spaces goes beyond mere bricks and mortar. Millennials, in particular, seem to resonate strongly with this idea, with a striking 88% of them agreeing that their homes are intertwined with their identities.
But what exactly is it about our homes that evokes such strong sentiments? According to Cassi Hallam, the chief marketing officer at System Pavers, it’s all about creating personalized spaces where we can unwind and make memories with loved ones.
“It’s about creating a place where they can truly relax and enjoy time with friends and family.”
The survey delved deeper into homeowners’ preferences when it comes to their abodes. Unsurprisingly, the style of the home was cited as the top priority by 33% of respondents during the purchasing process. For others, square footage or having a backyard ranked high on the list.
For those lucky enough to have outdoor areas like backyards or porches, these spaces hold special significance. Sixty percent of homeowners stated that they spend as much time as possible outdoors, basking in the serenity of nature right outside their doors.
“Front yards and gardens are most likely to be voted as the ‘pride’ of respondents’ homes (87% each).”
Moving beyond aesthetics, these outdoor areas serve as havens for relaxation and cherished activities such as gardening or simply enjoying quality time with pets and family members. Even when weather confines us indoors temporarily, there’s a palpable yearning to return outside once the storm passes.
“No feeling compares to the first moment you can go outside in your yard after bad weather.”
Hallam emphasizes how transforming these outdoor spaces into inviting retreats adds tangible value to both homes and lifestyles. Whether it’s hosting gatherings on a patio or savoring moments under starlit skies in an outdoor kitchen – these areas become focal points for joyous experiences shared with those closest to us.
So next time you step into your humble abode, take a moment to appreciate how it reflects not just your taste but also your innermost self – because home truly is where the heart is!
